Carolina Wren

I had until now disdained putting out seed in the summer, thinking the birds should live "naturally" and find wild food. (I am very diligent about providing fresh water) However now I am thinking that, if you want to get some pictures, you need to put out food! Here's one of the local denizens:

Spicebush Swallowtail

 
Not the kind that likes to sit still for pictures. Larval food is sassafras and spicebush, conveniently juxtaposed in my yard. Pictured is glossy abelia, non-native but inoffensive. The moths like it most and it flowers all summer. Posted by Picasa
